how do we please God?

Well, we know that without faith it is impossible to please God. First we need to believe that He exists. Then, we need to believe that He will reward those who diligently seek Him. Okay, so we have to be diligent in our seeking rather than hit and miss. Be diligent and find Him.

Obstacles I Have Encountered

I once was told that I believed in God because I needed a crutch. It was also indicated that I was lacking intelligence if I continued. I walked away from that conversation with someone that I respected, and prayed. I told God that I did not feel comfortable having Him prove who he was so that I would believe. I told Him I would keep believing, then, if it ever happened that someone could prove He was not God, I would maybe make a decision to not believe. All that has happened is that I believe. Unfortunately, those who do not believe do not know God and many times misrepresent Him.

Demons also try to derail us. They will occasionally tell us by invading our thoughts with some logic that God is not real or that He does not care about us. It can be convincing in that moment. They are tricky liars and have had thousands of years of practice in figuring out how to keep people from God. I picture the old cartoon characters that have an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other with both whispering in the characters' ears to do what they want. Start to recognize those voices. I have learned that those voices are not our voices. We actually do not think that. It helped for me to think back to a time when I was more innocent. I could not imagine that innocent child doing what I was hearing. Can you see that person you were doing what the devils are saying? No, is the answer.

Another problem is when we think God does not want to talk to us because we have not been diligent. Think of your relationships with the most loving people. Would they reject you because you were not diligent? Most would not. I know there are some people who would, but God is not like them. He is not a person with faults or failings. He is the most loving Father. Jesus said that God alone is good. He is good and is the perfect loving Father. Rest in that.

To please God, we need faith. That means we need to get to know Him so that our faith will increase and start to come from the heart. Once we get to know Him, it will be easy to believe in and follow such a wonderful Father. It takes diligence in seeking. Once we start to realize God's love for us, we will love Him back. Love for the Father will change our faith into a faith that will move mountains.
